Soundcraft Spirit M12

This time I want to show you a rather unusual repair for me — not a synthesizer, but an analog mixer: the Soundcraft Spirit M12. The built-in power supply was damaged (for some reason it was combined with the SPDIF digital output module). The word “damaged” doesn’t really describe the condition of this module ;-). More than ten components — both passive and semiconductor — were burned out, including the DC/DC converter.

At first, I planned to try to repair it, but since the schematic for this version wasn’t available, I decided to adapt a ready-made power supply module from AliExpress, originally designed for another Soundcraft device. Of course, this meant losing the SPDIF output that was part of the old power supply, but the owner never used that function anyway.

I just had to carefully study the available Soundcraft schematics and use a bit of logic — something I always do when fixing old synthesizers. So, I built a small adapter connecting the new power supply output to the old supply’s connection points, and in this way, I brought the mixer back to life — something that an average service shop would probably throw away as scrap.
